WHAT IS ANPR?
ANPR is a complete Automatic Number Plate Recognition system which offers a cost-effective way to control access and security in a whole host of different environments. The key to the system is the powerful Cleartone Recognition Engine which is used UK-wide in mission-critical security and law-enforcement situations.
WHY USE ANPR?
You need to have the facility to monitor who is coming in and out of your business premises. From that data, you can build a valuable security system. ANPR stores the images captured by the cameras, as well as text from licence plates and it’s also possible to store photographs of the drivers.
GOOD TO KNOW
Our powerful Cleartone Recognition Engine is used nationally in mission-critical security and law-enforcement applications.
Select supplies a secure server with the software to run the system and it can be connected to other applications or databases you may have in place. It first uses a series of image manipulation techniques to detect, normalise and enhance the image of the number plate – and then uses optical character recognition (OCR) to extract the alphanumerics. ANPR systems are generally used in one of two basic ways: one allows for the entire process to be performed at the lane location in real time and the second transmits all of the images from many lanes to a remote computer location and performs the OCR process at a later point. When done at the lane site, the information is captured and processed incredibly fast, around 250 milliseconds for each vehicle.
WORKINGS OF ANPR
The ANPR system uses infrared lighting to take the pictures so it’s effective at any time of day or night, it then enhances the images to make sure the information is clear. The range of cameras offers optimum performance for access control systems 24 hours a day, in varied lighting and weather conditions. The housing provides a mounting for the ANPR camera at approximately the same height as front car plates, eliminating problems with ‘tailgating’ or queuing traffic. The cameras are designed to work with the infrared retro reflective properties of number plates and the technology eliminates traditional CCTV restrictions such as headlight glare.
